Dephanie Lilite, President
The Shawnee Area Music Teachers Association meets 3-4 times a year. We also regularly host Junior Competitions and District Achievement Auditions. and in conjunction with OMTA East District leadership we help with the hosting of the Senior Competitions and the East District Conference. Our association has a very active group of a dozen members. This includes the two 2013 Oklahoma MTNA Foundation Fellows, Dr. Carol Ann Bell and Dr. Ron Lewis; 2012 Oklahoma MTNA Foundation Fellow Sandra Meyer; 2012 OMTA CFO Fellows Conchita Hansford and Alice Sanders; and 2011 OMTA Distinguished Teacher Kaye Shields. At the 2012 OMTA State Conference, two-thirds of our members participated in the Conference Collaborative Recital: Michael Dean, Alice Sanders, Don Clark, Mary Chung, Kaye Shields, Carol Ann Bell, Ron Lewis, and Sandra Meyer. Shawnee also won the Traveling Trophy for smaller local associations for the greatest percentage of members attending the state conference. Programs this year have included our State President Terri Hlubek; “Leadership Styles and Generational Differences” presented by Sandra Meyer; and “Little-Known Repertoire from Dominican Republic Composers” presented by Mary Chung. Michael Dean, OMTA East District Co-President, concertized at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary, this year and will also present a session on using Braille music with visually impaired students at the World Piano Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia, in June 2013. We welcome anyone in the Shawnee area to attend our meetings and to contact our president Dephanie Lilite for further information.
