The purpose of the Composition Festival is to give pre-college students an opportunity to participate in a State Composition Festival to gain experience, receive encouragement and obtain a helpful and constructive critique. Students choosing to enter the MTNA Composition Competition will benefit from the state level experience.Participation in the OMTA Composition Festival is not a requirement to enter any level of the MTNA Composition Competitions.  

1. OMTA teachers paying dues by June 30 are eligible to enter students.
2. A first time OMTA/MTNA teacher must pay state and national dues by the entry deadline.
3. Dues paid after June 30 and before the entry deadline may enter students by paying a $25.00 (payable to OMTA)late fee.
4. An email address for the teacher is required on each entry form.

1. Entrant categories as of January 1, 2017 are:
a. Elementary: ages 5-10
b. Junior High: ages 11-14
c. Senior High: ages 15-18
2. Students studying in a multi-teacher school or studio must be entered under the name of the primary teacher.  

1. The entry fee is $20.00 per work.
2. A student may enter more than one work per level but must pay a $20.00 entry fee for each work.
3. Entry fees are non-refundable.
4. Entries submitted after midnight on the deadline will not be accepted.

1. The original work must be at least 16 measures, composed and notated electronically by the student.
2. Pieces may be written for any solo instrument or small ensemble not to exceed 9 performers. 
3. The maximum time limit for each work is 10 minutes. Students will not be disqualified for exceeding time limitations, although only the maximum time allowed will be adjudicated.
4. Works for prepared piano are not permitted.
5. The score must include the title and level entered.
6. The name of the student or teacher is not permitted on the score.
7. Measures must be numbered.
8. Entries must be uploaded as a computer generated manuscript created by the student.
9. A recording of the work must be uploaded (MP3 format only) with the entry. Identify the title of the composition in the file name, but not the name of the composer.
10. Mail-in applications will not be accepted.

1. A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded in each category at the discretion of the adjudicator.
2. Each winner will receive a certificate, written critique, and acknowledgement on the OMTA website.
3. First place winners will receive a $30 monetary award and are required to have their piece performed in one of the Junior Competition Recitals to be held on November 4 (ORU), November 11 (OBU),  October 28 (OKC), 2017.  Information on locations and times of recitals will be sent to the winners and their teachers.
