The Music Teachers National Association Foundation Fellow program offers a meaningful method for honoring deserving individuals while supporting the efforts of the MTNA Foundation Fund through a donation to the Foundation Fund in an individual’s name.This year’s MTNA Foundation Committee, and OMTA Board has selected our OMTA VP for Auditions and Competitions, William Spannagel, for this honor in 2026. The $1,500.00 donated for each years’ fellow supports the MTNA Foundation, which assists teachers and students across the country in many ways.

William Spannagel, NCTM, affectionately known as “The Hammer,” will complete his term as Treasurer of OMTA in 2026, marking eight non-consecutive years of service. Throughout his tenure, he has optimized financial processes, significantly reducing turnaround times from several months to just a few days. Alongside managing a full piano studio, he is currently in his eighteenth year as the music teacher at Hugh Bish Elementary in Lawton, OK, where he earned the title of Teacher of the Year in 2018. William holds degrees from both Cameron University and the University of Oklahoma. He resides in Lawton with his wife and son.
