Student Performance Categories
Teachers will select one of the performance divisions for each student on the District and State Achievement Auditions entry form.
Solo Division Requirements
- Solo Division requires the performance of one composition. In the performance room, students are allowed a one minute warm-up with a maximum performance time of ten minutes.
- Students receiving a District performance rating of I+, I, or I- will advance, if registered, to the State Achievement Audition.
- Students receiving a “Critique Only”, District performance rating of II or lower, or did not attend District, will not advance to the State Achievement Audition.
- Solo Division students are not required, but encouraged to take a theory test. There is no additional entry fee for the theory test.
- Once registered, teachers cannot request a student to be changed to the Merit Division.
Eligibility:
Piano: Students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Band and Orchestral Instruments: Students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Voice: Students in seventh through twelfth grade.
Merit Division Requirements
- Merit Division requires the registration of two compositions of equal difficulty as determined by the teacher.
- Merit Division students are required to take a theory test as part of the District Achievement Audition. Students must receive a theory test total score of 75% or higher as part of the requirements to remain in the Merit Division for the State Achievement Audition. Students must receive a District performance rating of I+ or I to satisfy the other requirement to remain in the Merit Division for the State Achievement Audition.
- The first composition listed on the registration form will be performed at the District Achievement Audition. In the performance room, students are allowed a one minute warm-up with a maximum performance time of ten minutes.
- Students receiving a District performance rating of I+ or I and a theory test total score of 75% or higher will remain in the Merit Division for the State Achievement Audition. Students are required to perform the second composition listed on the on the registration form at State in May.
- Students receiving a District performance rating of I+ or I and a theory test score of 74% or lower will be changed to the Solo Division for the State Achievement Audition. Students are required to perform their District composition at State in May.
- Students receiving a District performance rating of I-, regardless of the theory test total score, will be changed to the Solo Division for the State Achievement Audition. Students are required to perform their District composition at State in May.
- Students receiving a “Critique Only”, District performance rating of II or lower, failed to complete a theory test or did not attend District, will not advance to the State Achievement Audition.
- Once registered, teachers cannot request a student to be changed to the Solo Division.
