The Music Teachers National Association Foundation Fellow program offers a meaningful method for honoring deserving individuals while supporting the efforts of the MTNA Foundation Fund through a donation to the Foundation Fund in an individual’s name. This year’s MTNA Foundation Committee, and OMTA Board has selected J.P. Murphy for this honor in 2027. The $1,500.00 donated for each years’ fellow supports the MTNA Foundation, which assists teachers and students across the country in many ways.

J. P. Murphy is a piano faculty member at the University of Oklahoma, where he teaches graduate piano pedagogy and applied piano and co-advises the MTNA Collegiate Chapter. He currently serves as President of the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association (2024-2026), as a member of MTNA’s GP3 Executive Steering Committee, and as an editorial committee member of the MTNA e-Journal. His writing has appeared in Piano Magazine, Piano Magazine Kids, American Music Teacher, and the MTNA e-Journal. An active composer of educational music, his works are self-published and published by Alfred Music.
