NOTE: Students may enter into one of two divisions: Solo Division or Merit Division. Once the entry form is submitted, students cannot change divisions.
Solo Division Requirements
- Solo division requires the performance of one composition. The audition time slot includes a brief warm-up with a maximum performance time of ten minutes.
- Solo entrants are not required to take a theory test.
- Students receiving a rating of I+, I, or I- will advance to the State Achievement Audition.
Eligibility:
Piano: Grades K-12
Band and Orchestral Instruments: Grades K-12
Voice: Grades 7-12
Merit Division Requirements
- Submission of two compositions of equal difficulty as determined by the teacher.
- Merit Division entrants are required to take a theory test as part of the District Achievement Audition.
- The first composition listed will be performed as part of the District Achievement Audition. One minute warm-up in the audition room with a maximum performance time of ten minutes.
- Students receiving a rating of I+, I, or I- will advance to the State Achievement Audition.
- Students receiving a rating of I+ or I at District will perform the second composition at the State Achievement Audition.
- Students receiving a rating of I- at District will perform the District Achievement Audition composition at the State Achievement Audition and will be moved to the Solo Division category.
- Repertoire cannot be changed between the District and State Auditions.
- Once the entry form is submitted, students cannot change from the Merit Division to the Solo Division. A change in divisions is only made if a student receives a performance rating of I- at the District Achievement Audition.
